At the recent Digital With Purpose (DWP) Global Summit of the Global Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), Huawei's Norwegian salmon protection project won the Digital With Purpose Award and the Digital With Purpose Biodiversity category. The project aims to save Norway's endangered wild salmon through an automatic diversion system.

With the support of Huawei's TECH4ALL digital inclusion initiative, Huawei and its partners, the Norwegian Berlevåg Hunting and Angling Association (BJFF), Simula Consulting and Troll Systems, developed an automatic diversion system that can identify different fish and automatically divert pink salmon. Pink salmon is an invasive species that threatens the survival of Norway's native wild salmon, Atlantic salmon.

"All judges unanimously voted to award the grand prize to Huawei's artificial intelligence solution for screening invasive salmon." Luís Neves, CEO of GeSI, said: "Not only because of the innovation of the solution, but also because of the results achieved in a short period of time. This system is an example of how digital technology contributes to the sustainability of the earth and the protection of ecosystems."
